House design with feng shui

The cheapest moment to get a house right with feng shui is on paper. Once it is finished, everything is a compromise.

A house can be adjusted with feng shui at any time. But the only moment you can do it without compromise, and effectively for nothing, is on paper — before the first trench is dug.

When a client comes to us with a finished house, we work out what can still be rescued within the existing floor plan. When they come with a plot and an idea, we work out how to build so that it feels right from the beginning. The difference in both cost and outcome is enormous.

What we look at

The plot and its orientation

Where the slope runs, which way the wind comes from, how the sun travels, what stands opposite. The Form School — the oldest branch of feng shui — reads the shape of the land. A house with its back to rising ground and open space in front of it gives the people inside a calm you can measure in how well they sleep.

The entrance

The front door is where everything enters the house — people, energy, opportunities. We look at where it faces, what you see first when it opens, and whether the view runs straight through the house and out of a window on the far side. That direct door-to-window axis is the most common mistake we find in new houses.

Where the rooms go

Bedrooms belong in the quiet part of the house, a kitchen needs a different quality of energy than a study, and a bathroom above the main entrance causes real trouble. In a finished house that means moving walls. In a drawing it means moving a line.

The nine areas of life

The ba-gua map divides a floor plan into nine zones, each linked to an area of life — career, relationships, health, money. In a new build we can arrange the layout so that the zones a client cares about most land in proper rooms rather than in a cupboard or a staircase.

How we work together

  1. 1

    We meet on the plot

Free and without obligation. We walk the site, look at the surroundings, the slope and the orientation, and talk about what you want from the house.

  2. 2

    Personal analysis

Feng shui works with the birth dates of the people who will live there. They determine which orientations suit whom — which is why the same house does not suit every family equally.

  3. 3

    Comments on the drawings

If you already have an architect, we give them a document with specific changes to the layout. If you do not, we can recommend someone we are used to working with.

  4. 4

    Interior design

Once the shell is up we design the inside — materials, light, furniture. The five elements enter through surfaces and colour, not through ornaments.

  5. 5

    Portfolio

Bespoke furniture is made by our own team of joiners. We handle installation and coordinate the trades.

This is not esoterics

Feng shui has a reputation it has partly earned — shops sell mirrors, wind chimes and money frogs in its name. We use none of that.

What we do take from feng shui can be explained without a single reference to energy: a person feels better with their back to a wall than to a door, because it removes a layer of subconscious vigilance. They sleep worse in a room with something suspended above them. They concentrate better without clutter in their field of view. Feng shui is a thousand-year-old collection of such observations, organised into a system long before environmental psychology arrived at the same conclusions.

When to get in touch

Ideally when you have a plot and no drawings yet. The second-best moment is when you have drawings and construction has not started. It can be done later, only with bigger compromises — and once the house is finished it becomes a question of interiors.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a house design with feng shui cost?

+

It depends on scope — a consultation over existing drawings costs far less than a complete house and interior design. The first meeting on the plot is free and without obligation; after it you get a fixed quote.

Do I have to believe in feng shui for it to work?

+

No. Most of what we apply are practical rules about outlook, light, circulation and where the bed goes. They work the same for a sceptic as for an enthusiast, because they rest on how the human body responds, not on belief.

Can you work alongside my architect?

+

Yes, we do it regularly. We give the architect a document with specific comments on layout and orientation. The earlier we are involved, the fewer changes it means for them.

What if the house is already built?

+

Then we work with what can change without demolition — furniture placement, lighting, materials, colour, mirrors and plants in the right places. The result is not as clean as a house designed properly from the start, but the difference is noticeable.

Why do you need my date of birth?

+

In feng shui it determines which compass directions suit a particular person. That is why copying a neighbour's layout makes little sense — the same arrangement suits one family and not another.

Let's talk it over

The first consultation is free and without obligation. We can meet at your place, on the plot, or over a coffee — whichever suits you.
